I'm terribly proud of this

I got mine a few month ago and am simply back from ten days in Italy, where I used this extensively.

Sharp, sensible flare management, a lot of fun. The previous reviewer says one thing concerning the AF being slow-- that, while true, is simply 0.5 the story. you are nearly always planning to be focusing at or close to infinity, thus it's truly terribly rare to possess to attend. as a result of this lens has such wide depth of field, I truly sometimes keep it on manual focus and leave it close to infinity.

Actually, the largest challenge with this lens is composition-- it will be surprisingly onerous to seek out a scene with attention-grabbing things in all directions. That said, this lens is *excellent* for within buildings and crowded town streets. remember that outdoors, finding the proper exposure will be tough for variety of reasons. I did considerably higher in M (manual) mode than my camera was doing during a (aperture) mode. This fisheye is horrid. an excessive amount of vid on each cam i place it on. not one hundred eighty degree angle. however i modded it. i took off the lenses then unscrewed the macro. removed the macro and therefore then place the lenses back and the fisheye acts currently like if it were a opteka baby death. A very little off focus

For the money, this is often a good enough product. At solely $60 for a fisheye, it isn't thus dangerous. however not adequate quality for the a lot of serious photographer, but then, I expect they might obtain a dearer lens anyhow.

It is an attachment, and fits on the top of your regular lens, it's not a lens in itself. Any attachment isn't an ideal substitution for the important lens.

good worth for fun photos

decent photos for the worth. lens feels alittle serious for the kit 18-55mm lens, however it auto focuses fine.

my higher captures were at focal lengths between 28mm and 23mm. something lower causes smart fisheye/dostorted effects, however with that black barrel showing a lot of as you zoom out. conjointly blurs a lot of round the edges at lower focal lengths.

good macro lens. cannot very use together with your pop up flash as a result of the lens stands proud too way and causes shadows in low lit areas.

lens caps are low-cost and do not keep on too well outside of it's rough carrying case.

shipped pretty quick and price me but $40 when everything.

Outstanding Fisheye Lens for DX-Format Nikon DSLRs!

First off, bear in mind that I purchased this Sigma fisheye to switch Nikon's ten.5mm f/2.8 fisheye. whereas i used to be pleased with the Nikon's optical performance, i used to be disappointed with the AF style. Nikon's lens depends on the AF motor within the camera, that makes for noisy AF. additionally, this style precludes full-time manual focus touch-up. and eventually, the dearth of an in-lens focus motor precludes AF on the prevailing D40/D40x and new D60, furthermore as future Nikon DSLRs lacking an in-camera focus motor.

In any event, when Sigma announced their fisheye lens a number of months ago, i made a decision that i'd purchase one. and that i am terribly pleased with it! The HSM provides autofocus performance as quick because the Nikon (at least on my Nikon D300 DSLR), whereas being eerily quiet.

As for the optical quality, it seems to be nearly a twin of Nikon's, that is to mention wonderful. each lenses are slightly soft wide-open (i.e. at f/2.8), however sharpen significantly when shut down one f-stop. Indeed, each lenses are nearly as sharp at f/4 as they're at f/5.6.

Besides the built-in autofocus motor, another distinction between Nikon and Sigma's fisheye lenses is that the field-of-view (FOV). Sigma's lens is zero.5mm wider, and provides atiny low -- however positively noticeable -- increase within the angle of read.

So, it all comes all the way down to this:

* does one currently own a D40/D40x/D60, or commit to purchase one?

* does one like super-quiet AF to the noisy mechanical variety?

* does one like a better-built lens?

The one advantage that Nikon's lens has is size/weight. whereas arguably not as sturdy and well-built because the Sigma, it's lighter and a lot of compact. If this can be necessary to you, then you'll like the Nikon. (See the comparison photos I posted to check what I mean.)

As for Cons, there's one. Sigma's lens is, sadly, not weather-sealed. i used to be hoping that Sigma would a minimum of utilize a gasket round the lens mount, however that's not the case. As such, i like to recommend against using this lens in rain/drizzle -- or in an exceedingly super-humid atmosphere. (It is vital to notice that Nikon's fisheye lens isn't weather-sealed either, and additionally lacks a lens mount gasket.)

Apart from the one aforementioned criticism, I highly suggest the Sigma 10mm fisheye lens. Wow, this factor is wide! I even have a Tokina 12-24 and that i took an attempt from a similar spot with each lenses set at 12mm. twelvemm on the 8-15 was a lot of wider than 12 on the 12-24, i am going to post the comparison later.

I haven't used it a lot of, largely as a result of it's a special purpose lens and that i haven't had several special purpose opportunities since I bought it. It looks well designed and was nicely packaged. however even at it's current worth ($1428), it's terribly high priced. The Sigma 10mm Fisheye might need been an improved obtain.

Some things to notice.

-On the Canon 7D (APS-C), at 8mm with the lens hood on you may get small bits of the hood within the shot. See my sample posts.

Lightweight lens with super sharp optics, and can be used to focus as close as eight inches. Great for close up nature photography, and you are able to get the flower in focus along with the entire garden in the background. The visual distortion makes some interesting photos at the 10 mm zoom level. Combine this lens with the nikkor 18-200 mm VR lens and that is all you need to carry on any trip. I did not see any flare except when shooting into the sun. Lens is 15 ounces, matte finish without a professional look as good as any nikon or canon lens.
