Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

By Christopher Nielsen First, keep in mind that I bought this Sigma fisheye to replace 2.8 Nikon 10.5 mm fisheye. While I was happy with the optical performance of the Nikon, I was disappointed with the design of AF. Nikon lenses is based on the AF motor in the camera, making noisy AF. This design also opposes full-time manual focus touch-up. And finally, the lack of a focus motor in the lens AF is opposed to current and new D40/D40X D60 and future Nikon DSLR without a focus motor in the camera.
In any case, when Sigma announced its fisheye lens a few months ago, I decided I would buy one. And I'm very happy with it! The HSM autofocus performance faster than the Nikon (at least in my Nikon D300 DSLR), while strangely quiet.
As for optical quality, which seems to be virtually identical to Nikon, ie excellent. Both objectives are a bit soft open (ie, 2.8), but sharpen considerably when closing a f-stop. In fact, the lenses are almost as strong in f / 4, as it is in 5.6.
In addition to the built-in autofocus motor, another difference between the fish-eye lenses Nikon and Sigma is the field of view (FOV). 0.5 mm lens from Sigma is wider and has a small - increase in the angle of view - but definitely noticeable.
Therefore, it comes down to this: * Are you currently own a D40/D40x/D60, or will you buy one? * Do you prefer a super-quiet AF noisy mechanical variety? * Do you prefer a better lens built?
The only advantage that Nikon lens is the size / weight. Although no one could say that as durable and well built as the Sigma is lighter and more compact. If this is important to you, then you may prefer the Nikon. (See the comparison photos I posted what I mean.)
As for the cons, there is one. Sigma lens is, unfortunately, not tight. I was hoping that Sigma was used at least one gasket around the lens mount, but that is not the case. As such, we recommend using this lens in the rain / drizzle - or a very humid environment. (It is important to note that the lens Nikon fisheye is not watertight either, and also lacks a meeting of the lens mount.)
Besides the aforementioned complaints, I recommend the Sigma 10 mm fisheye lens. It provides all the performance / quality of Nikon lenses, fisheye, while providing a fast and quiet autofocus of the owners of all Nikon DSLRs, including the D40/D40x/D60. Do not be disappointed!
